International University Technical Transfer
Cooperation on technical transfer with Northwest Pylitechnical University
Introduction: Xi’an city & the Brussels Capital Region (BCR) signed a MoU on Multilayered collaboration between the City of Xi’an and the Brussels Capital Region. The framework is structured with three layers: relations between universities, collaboration on knowledge, innovation and technology transfer, and policy & decision making perspective, cultural and economic activities. The synergy between the regional interests and the triple university’s mission (education, R&D and value creation) will accelerate and increase the creation of societal, cultural and economic value and intensify the R&D collaboration. The two cities keep frequent interactions. Especially the cooperation between universities turns out to be fruitful.

FWO Bilateral Project
VUB – Zhejiang Academy of Medical Sciences (Hangzhou, China)
At the VUB, the laboratory of Immunology has been working for several years on the development of diagnostic tools for various parasitic infections. One of these infections affecting mainly cattle and buffalo’s is called Trypanosome evansi, and is present in large parts of South –East China. Combining the knowledge on this parasite that existed at the Zhejiang Academy of Medical Sciences, Hangzhou, with the VUB knowledge on diagnostic development allowed us in 2013 to start up a joined research project. To date, researchers from both VUB and ZAMS have visited each other’s research facilities several times, spending several months working side by side. The last visit of the China representatives to Brussels took place on September 4th-9th, and a joined workshop on trypanosomiasis was organized in Brussels on September 6th 2014. In September 2014, joined field work has been executed in China, involving an IWT postdoctoral fellow from the VUB.
